Welcome to John C. Stennis Space Center, America’s largest rocket propulsion test complex. As a member of the NASA family at Stennis, you are joining a diverse group of individuals and a center with a rich history. In addition to the NASA programs at Stennis, the center is a unique federal city, with more than 30 other federal, state and commercial organizations also located on-site, all surrounded by a 125,000-acre acoustical buffer zone.

Stennis was built in the 1960s to test the rocket engines and stages that took Americans to the moon. Today, we are the nation’s premiere center for testing rocket engines. Stennis successfully completed its part of the Space Shuttle Program with all space shuttle main engines used in every mission being proven flight-worthy at Stennis. Stennis is now involved in future generation rocket engine testing and has conducted preliminary component testing for the J-2X engine being developed to help power the Ares I and Ares V rockets; centerpieces of NASA's Constellation Program to carry humans back to the moon and possibly beyond. The new A-3 Test Stand being constructed at Stennis will allow the J-2X to be tested at simulated heights up to 100,000 feet. Stennis personnel also are modifying the A-1 Test Stand to conduct sea-level testing on the full J-2X engine. The center’s Applied Science and Technology Project Office plays a key role in the science community, leading the agency’s Gulf of Mexico initiative, which is focused on applying NASA earth-science research data for improved decision making.

We are excited to have you join the Stennis family, where the workforce is what makes the difference. We are committed to the NASA values of safety, the NASA family, excellence, and integrity. You bring your own unique talents and capabilities to Stennis, and we want to ensure that you have the opportunity to utilize those skills as we foster your growth and development in support of our missions.

You are joining the Stennis team at an exciting time as we move forward with space exploration and discovery. We hope that you will find a rewarding career at Stennis and we look forward to working with you in this new endeavor.
