NASA Marshall Space Flight Center Exchange

About MSFC Exchange
The NASA Marshall Space Flight Center Exchange is a non-appropriated fund activity established in 1963 by the Center Director. The Exchange is authorized under NPD 9050.6E, and exists to contribute to the welfare, efficiency and morale of NASA MSFC employees, other Government personnel stationed at MSFC, retired NASA employees, the families and guests of the preceding, and MSFC onsite contractor personnel.

For the Exchange to maintain its instrumentality status, all members of NASA Exchanges must be federal civil service employees. At MSFC, the Exchange is governed by an Exchange Council composed of seven MSFC employees. Four of these are appointed by the Center Director: The Chairman, Operations Manager, Treasurer and one member. The remaining three members are elected in a general election in which all MSFC employees are eligible to vote. These elected members serve two year terms. The Council selects a Secretary from its members.

The NPD prescribes the guidelines governing the management and funding of the MSFC Exchange. It also authorized the Exchange to operate a variety of revenue generating activities to support welfare, efficiency, and morale activities. The Exchange provides a variety of services such as Vending machines, the Exchange SpaceShop, an Automobile Repair Shop, a Credit Union, a Bank, and a Barber and Styling Shop.

The Exchange Council develops an annual budget for the various morale and welfare activities is supports. The Exchange provides full or partial support for the following activities:

  • Equal Employment Opportunity Events
  • Blood Drives
  • Retirement Gifts
  • Center Director Support
  • Sports and Club Activities
  • Centerwide Activities

The day-to-day operations of the MSFC Exchange are managed by the Exchange Manager, Bill Mayo, mail code HS 01X, telephone 544-7564.
