JSC Safety Briefing

 

Safety plays an integral role in NASA's quest to expand frontiers in aeronautics and space. As we embark on one of our great adventures - launching, building, and using the International Space Station -- we are aware that NASA's ultimate success can only be achieved with a safe and healthy workforce.  To insure that your visit to JSC is as safe as possible please review the following safety guidelines.

Traffic & Parking Information
  • Please abide by the posted speed limits. Generally, they are 20 to 25 mph.
  • Pedestrians have the right of way. Stop for pedestrians in crosswalks. 
  • Parking lots are located adjacent to most buildings. Please do not park in reserved parking spaces.
  • If you're involved in or observe a traffic incident contact NASA Security

Emergency Phone Numbers

  • On-Site JSC & Sonny Carter Training Facility -  33333 
  • On-Site Ellington Field  - 44444, (EFD Security Incident)   -  33333 
  • Off-Site  -  911

In case of any type of emergency, provide the following: your name, location, the phone number you are calling from, and the nature of the emergency.  Stay on the line until emergency personnel have all of the information needed.

JSC Alarm /Siren System

The JSC site-wide emergency alerting system is used to quickly notify employees and visitors of potential danger. If the alarm system activates --Follow the instructions of your NASA host.

In Case of a Fire Alarm

Evacuate the building using the stairs. DON'T use the elevators. Move at least 75 feet from the building. Follow the directions of your NASA host, the fire warden, and security officials. 

Hazardous Areas & Materials

  • There are many hazardous areas and materials at JSC. If you have any concerns consult the employees in that area or contact Occupational Health at x36726.
  • Obey hazard warning signs. Do not go into unauthorized areas.
  • Avoid areas requiring special protective equipment (e.g. goggles, hearing protection, hard hats, etc.) unless you are properly trained and protected.
