Entrances
JSC has four entrances that allow easy access from all directions. For security of facilities and employees, guards are posted at each gate. The main entrance at Saturn off NASA Parkway is open 24 hours a day and is used by JSC employees and the general public. The other employee entrances have limited hours. You will want to check in at Building 110 at the main entrance when you arrive.
Driving and Speed Limits
In general, traffic signs indicate moving traffic regulations. Speed limits are 25 miles per hour and 15 miles per hour in parking lots, unless otherwise indicated by traffic signs. Speed limits are enforced by the use of radar. Drivers are expected to yield to pedestrians at all times.
Parking
One of the benefits of working at JSC is free unassigned parking that is normally very close to where you will be working. Some things to remember about parking are:
DO NOT PARK in spaces marked, on the curb or by signs designating areas such as, "RESERVED", "VISITOR PARKING", "PARKING FOR GOVERNMENT VEHICLES", "MEDICAL PATIENT", "HANDICAPPED PARKING", EMERGENCY VEHICLES ONLY", or any areas marked with yellow curbs or with yellow or white cross striping. Most reserved parking spaces have a letter and a number on the curb. Park only in designated parking areas. Only motorcycles may park in parking areas marked with white "zebra" stripes.
Timed Zones may be used for the periods indicated but employees should avoid using timed zones near their work area, as those zones are intended for use by short-term visitors.
Reserved Parking
A reserved parking space is identified by a curb marking or posted sign. The space is reserved at all times--24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is assigned to a specific individual(s) and is not to be used by others unless approval is obtained from the individual(s) assigned the reserved parking space.
"Reserved parking" is defined as follows:
Executive Reserved Parking
A reserved parking space is assigned to each on-site employee at grade GS-15 and above or equivalent military grade 06. Any exceptions to this policy must be approved by the Director of Center Operations and provided in writing to the JSC Security Office/JSC Reserved Parking Coordinator. A designated JSC Human Resources Office representative or Administrative Officer should contact Security to provide the name(s) of those personnel meeting the criteria for executive reserved parking and provide the effective date based on official personnel records, the employee's mail code, and building location.
Medical Reserved Parking
Employees requesting temporary medical reserved parking must present a written physician certification of medical condition to the JSC Clinic. Temporary parking is defined as a maximum of 90 days for a temporary medical condition. Employees requesting permanent medical reserved parking (longer than 90 days) will be granted such only with proof of approved State of Texas handicapped placard or handicapped license plate to the JSC Clinic. JSC Clinic notifies
Security of reserved parking qualification/requirement within 24 hours of certification of medical condition.
Carpool Reserved Parking
It is the policy at JSC to encourage to the maximum extent feasible voluntary employee carpools. This policy applies to all civil service, contractor, and military personnel employed at the JSC facility. Only persons whose duty stations are in a JSC facility are eligible to participate in the JSC Carpool Program. The following security requirements apply:
- "Carpool" is defined as three or more civil service, contractor, or military employees who commute daily to and from JSC, together in one vehicle.
- Each organized carpool shall be assigned only one reserved parking space.
- Each carpool member is required to personally appear before the JSC Reserved Parking Coordinator (Building 30 Badge Office) to sign JSC Form 162, Request for Carpool Reserved Parking Space, and certify regular participation in the carpool before the reserved parking space can be approved. The form also requires the name, signature, organizational unit, office phone number, residence, and JSC building number of each employee who will participate in the carpool. The participants are instructed to notify the JSC Reserved Parking Coordinator at 281-483-5993 whenever a change in carpool status occurs; i.e., employee termination/retirement, employee no longer in carpool, etc., replacement members must report to Building 30 Badge Office to sign JSC Form 162.
- Falsification of information regarding participation in carpools will result in the loss of onsite driving privileges for all personnel listed.
