SAFETY

The Headquarters Safety function in the Office of Facilities and Security Management Division (Code CO) provides guidance and support to HQ management and employees in the recognition and evaluation of potential job-associated safety hazards and safety related issues. Each Code has a safety point of contact. Annual refresher training is required.

NASA has established the NASA Safety Reporting System (NSRS) to allow an alternate method for reporting of safety concerns. The NSRS was initiated to complement, not replace, NASA's established safety reporting channels. If supervisors have already been notified of a real or potential issue of safety, but the employee (or contractor) remains concerned that the safety of personnel, a mission, or an operation relating to the conduct of NASA's programs is not being properly addressed, then the NSRS shuld be used.

NSRS is a voluntary, responsive, and confidential safety reporting system and provides a valuable option for timely notification of potential safety risks. The reporter's identity will never be disclosed, and no submitted information shall be used directly or indirectly to identify the reporter. The way the system works is very simple. Any NASA employee, contractor, or crewmember may mail an NSRS reporting form to the NSRS Office whenever they believe it necessary.
Simply fill out the form, enclose it in an envelope, seal, and mail. All employees should take the time to learn more about NSRS.
